Tips for a Smooth Trip
To make your trip to Grenada enjoyable and stress-free, here are some practical tips:
Best Time to Visit - The dry season from January to May is the best time. The weather is sunny and perfect for outdoor activities. The other months of the year, you ca expect rainfall. The months of July to October exist the possibility of a Tropical Storm or Hurricane. However, historically, Grenada usually gets a major storm or hurricane every 20 years or so. So no need to be overly worried!
Currency - The Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD) is used. US dollars are also accepted in many places. The exchange rate is $2.67 XCD for $1.00 US. You can use cash, debit card or credit card to make payments.
Language - English is the official language, so communication is easy.
Health and Safety - Drink bottled water and use sunscreen. Mosquito repellent is helpful, especially in the evenings.
Places to stay - Besides hotels, there are a large number of Air BnB places to stay ranging from studio apartments to full houses with lots of great amenities.
Getting around - You can get around using taxi services or ridesharing services such as Haylup or Ryde.
Respect Local Customs - Grenadians are friendly and polite. Greet people with a smile and be respectful of their culture. Greet persons by saying "Good morning", "Good afternoon" or "Good night".
Internet and Connectivity - Wi-Fi is available. You can easily connect to any open WiFi. You can also set up your own hot spot using your personal WiFI data and access the internet.
Cell phone - Mobile providers are Digicel and Flow. You can get a local SIM card to use to make call. SIM cards cost $15 XCD. Another option is to use roaming from your international provider, once you are fine with bearing the costs.
Clothes - ensure to pack a swimsuit and take advantage of all the beach days that you can get! Generally, light clothing is advised due to the heat.
